The Association for Women in Science (AWIS)
AWIS is a global network that works to advance women in STEM, promote organizational success, and drive systemic change. Using an intersectional approach, AWIS provides a unique national platform and community for women at all stages of their STEM career journey.
The St. Louis Chapter
The mission of AWIS St. Louis Chapter is to promote a positive environment for women in the larger scientific community through education, advocacy, and outreach. AWIS St. Louis works to increase the available mentoring and networking resources for women at all stages of their scientific careers by sponsoring workshops and by holding social gatherings for AWIS members. They also work to improve the perception of women within the scientific community by increasing recognition for the accomplishments of women scientists.
AWIS Chapters extend the reach and effectiveness of our collective advocacy efforts on behalf of women in STEM. Chapters are robust, multidisciplinary communities that bring together stakeholders from a wide range of employment sectors, scientific disciplines, and career stages. Their activities can vary greatly based on the leadership and community they serve. Chapter members have opportunities to advance their careers through professional development, mentoring, information sharing, outreach and professional networking in formal and informal social settings.

Chapter History
In 2023 when the chapter was re-started, the original board did research into the chapter's history by speaking to past members and past board members. The group was originally started by Washington University PostDoc students in the early 2000s. The group thrived until the late 2010s, and per most things that shuttered, the group was affected by Covid-19.
Abigail Stack-Nothstine was the former Board President of the Sacramento Valley Chapter prior to relocating to Saint Louis for work in late 2022. AWIS National asked for her help in getting the chapter restarted... and here we are today with a bit of help from some enthusiastic ladies who stumbled upon her while searching for local Scientific Networking.
